Settings and Recovery

Find a setting

Settings search for Hero with matching options

Open Settings and search by name or description. Press Ctrl+F (or Cmd+F) to focus settings search, Enter to jump to the first result, or Escape to clear it. Some settings appear only on supported platforms.

Game setup and launch

Game and Steam paths with gameinfo configuration controls

Under Game, check the automatically detected Game Path or choose another installation. Set a custom Steam path if automatic Steam detection is incorrect.

The game configuration panel shows the status of gameinfo.gi and has controls for Create Backup, Restore Backup, Reset to Vanilla, Validate Configuration, and Open in Editor. This configuration backup is separate from an addons backup.

Launch Options configures arguments used to start Deadlock, including Autoexec Config and Console Debug Log. Vanilla Mode controls whether vanilla launches omit additional arguments. Auto-Reapply Mods reapplies mods when the manager starts.

Use Launch modded to play with the active setup or Launch without mods to play without it. While Deadlock is running, Stop Game replaces the modded launch action. If a launch fails, check the displayed error and configuration status before retrying.

Hero detection and conflicts

Hero Parser detects which heroes local mods affect. You can track indexing progress, start or stop a background scan, index mods that have not been scanned, force a rescan, or clear detected assignments. Immediate scans can make the app less responsive while processing large mods.

Hero Conflict Warning controls warnings when enabling another mod for an already-modded hero. Hero Skins settings can group sounds and weapon skins by hero and allow several skins per hero. Correct detection mistakes with Assign Mod or a library hero override.

Appearance and application behavior

Application includes theme mode, audio-preview volume, optional 3D model previews, decorative geometry and animation controls, language, default sorting, and paginated browsing. Collapse the sidebar to make more room for the page.

Open Settings → Themes for predefined themes and the custom theme builder. Plugins manages other plugin features. See Customization and Themes.

Automatic app updates and update-channel selection are separate controls. Use the bottom-bar update action to check or install an update. See Update Channels.

On Linux, NVIDIA Wayland Compatibility supports Auto, Force On, and Force Off. It works around a WebKitGTK rendering issue; restart the manager after changing it. Use Auto unless you are troubleshooting a specific rendering problem.

Network

File-server routing and proxy settings

In Network, configure file-server routing and proxy settings. Choose Default, Automatic, or an available file server. Refresh the server list and use Test servers to compare latency. Routing support depends on the download provider.

For a proxy, choose its protocol, host, and port, add authentication if required, and configure a bypass list. Use Test Connection and save the settings. Restore defaults if you no longer want that configuration.

Content and data controls

Privacy settings for content filters and usage analytics

Privacy & Content controls hiding NSFW content, likely-NSFW visibility, preview blur, and blur strength. Saved per-item choices can override visibility decisions; use the reset action to clear those choices. Usage Analytics controls analytics collection.

Match contribution has two independent controls:

  • Match Data Sharing, under Privacy, fetches your own matches through your Steam login after consent.
  • Matchdata Ingest Tool, under Application, scans locally cached Steam matchdata and contributes data to the API. This setting is on by default in a new installation, though the app's integration policy also controls its availability. It runs independently of Steam-account match fetching.

See Servers and Stats for the sharing consent and limits. Review both controls when choosing whether to contribute match data.

Backups and recovery

Addons backups and automatic-backup controls

Recovery tools and folder shortcuts

Backups creates and restores addons backups and configures automatic backups and retention. Tools provides shortcuts to the game, active-profile mods, and mod-data folders.

ToolEffect
Clear CatalogClears and resyncs the local GameBanana catalog.
Clear Download CacheRemoves remote download archives and extracted cache; installed mods are not affected and local mods are preserved.
Clear All Mod DataDeletes mod metadata, local mods, and preview images.
Clear Mods StateClears saved mod state so it can be rebuilt.
Clear All ModsRemoves mods from the application and game folder.
Nuke & ReinstallPurges remote mods, clears their cache and state, then downloads and reinstalls them in the original load order. Local mods are preserved.

Back up before recovery

Read the confirmation for each action. Nuke & Reinstall can stop after an error and leave some mods missing; unavailable sources cannot be downloaded again. Keep separate copies of local mods and any files you need to preserve.

Account sign-in

Choose Sign In in the app header to open the authentication dialog and continue in your browser. Follow the callback instructions, or paste an authorization code if the dialog offers that fallback. Use the account menu to sign out.

Sign-in is required to publish community crosshairs. Local mod management and experimental-feature switches work without an account.

Logs, developer tools, and onboarding

Logging lets you inspect log files, open their folder, and prepare troubleshooting information, including game crash dumps when available. Review logs before sharing them or opening them with an external AI service.

Enable Developer Mode to access the VPK shard inspector and other technical tools and settings. You can also add custom settings in Launch Options. See the developer documentation for implementation details.

Under the information section, Reset Onboarding makes the setup wizard appear again. Onboarding includes game detection, existing addons, network configuration, analytics preferences, and optional match-sharing consent.
